Perfect skin is like the beauty holy grail. We mix up potions, keep our dermatologists on speed dial, and read up on tips and tricks to get our visages glowing. But, it seems that no matter what we do, we never seem to be fully satisfied. There will always be women out there with gorgeous complexions that are just out of our reach.

So, we went straight to the source. We tapped a few of those women with lit-from-within, envy-inducing glows and asked for their secrets. And, like anything else that's truly worth it, good skin takes a ton of dedication. But, before you give up, trust us: These tips aren't so insane that you won't be able to master them. In fact, you could easily incorporate them into your regimen.

Don't Be Afraid To DIY
Making your own products doesn't have to be a long, intense process. Hannah Bronfman, founder of HBFit.com and kick-ass DJ, actually does it while she cooks. "Fresh avocado is an instant hydrator," she says. "Whenever I use avocado in my cooking, I spread the remains on my face for 10 minutes." Another pro tip: Strawberries and honey make a quick and easy antioxidant mask.
 Get Quality Sleep
Gabrielle Union is a huge proponent of a good night's rest. "You need to allow your body to repair itself," she says.

Celebrity aesthetician Mila Moursi stresses more than just the importance of a solid eight hours. She says that ensuring your sleep is good-quality is equally important. "Sleep is number-one for me," she says. Her top tip for getting a restful night: "Keep technology out of the bedroom," she says. "Girls sleep with their cell phones next to them, and they're not aware of the vibrations from the texting." Stash your phone in your purse — or anywhere else that isn't right next to you. And, utilize that Do Not Disturb mode — no vibrating, no nothing.
 Keep Moving
It's advice you've heard over and over again — exercise to get good skin. But, that doesn't necessarily mean you have to run a 5K every weekend. "Just a little movement a day is good for your skin," Moursi says. "Even if it's just a little bit of stretching first thing in the morning." She also suggests giving yourself 10 minutes every morning just to focus on your breathing to help yourself relax.
 Hydrate
"One of the things I can't live without is my rosewater spray," says Chelsea Leyland, a DJ and model. "I spray it on throughout the day when I'm home — like, whenever I pop into the bathroom, I grab it and spray it on. It's one of those things I'll never not be able to have."

Sipping on water may seem like very basic advice, but it's an essential step in the quest for glowing skin. Moursi suggests starting every morning with water and lemon. Then, just keep sipping throughout the day. Union says she drinks a gallon a day, but experts say half a gallon (eight eight-ounce glasses) is enough.
 Stick To A Ritual
Whether it's a regular trip to your dermatologist (like Leyland) or sticking to the same routine daily (like Union), a ritual is super-important to keeping your skin looking top-notch. "I like rituals," Moursi says. "Beauty is not just one step — it's steps that work in synergy with one another." Once you do find that magic mix of steps that work together, stay loyal. Moursi also suggests not mixing product lines in your skin-care routine — but no one is perfect.
 Think Preventative
Like popping vitamins or washing your hands, skin care should be preventative. "A skin-care routine that is focusing on the future and what's happening now is ideal," Moursi says. Chat with your dermatologist and aesthetician about how to maximize your forward-thinking routine.
 Wear Sunscreen
We've said it before, but it bears repeating: Sunscreen is insanely important for gorgeous skin. "I use major sunscreen, and that's another thing that's made a huge difference in my skin," Union says. "A lot of my girlfriends were sun-worshippers, and they really do look 20 years older than they are." Protect all of your exposed areas with an SPF of 30 or higher. And, if you're going to be outside for an extended period of time, please reapply.
 Mask It Up
Masks are part of any clear-skinned woman's regimen. Cate Blanchett has been doing them for so long that she sometimes wanders outside the house in full-sheet masks. "You know when you’ve been doing something for a really long time, and it just becomes habit? You don’t even recognize that it’s an odd thing to do anymore," she says. But, don't just slap on a mask for the sake of using one: Find a couple with ingredients that work for you, and keep those guys on rotation.
 Think Outside The Box
Getting good skin doesn't always mean treating the skin. Leyland visits an herbalist — something she says has seriously improved her complexion. "They've helped with my hormonal skin-care issues," she says. Bronfman says she gets regular reflexology treatments to help her relax.

Moursi is a fan of dry-brushing — not just your body, but also your face. "It's like a magic wand," she says. If you're taking care of yourself, your skin will show it. So, think big-picture: Live a glowing life, and your face will follow.
