This Bronzer Looks Terrifying, But It Totally Isn't

MakeupCertain beauty products — think NARS blush in Orgasm, Clinique's Black Honey lipstick — are so good, they're practically famous. And, while we do love so many of those well-known, well-loved products with a loyal following, we've been wondering why others have been quietly flying under the radar. With that in mind, meet our beauty series, Cult Classics, in which we'll introduce you to the products you really, truly should know about (and try, like, right now). They're not brand new, but trust us: They've got staying power.

We admit it: Bronzer can be pretty intimidating to shop for. We've seen the before-and-after pics. Bronzed jobs can go completely haywire even with cream and powder formulas, and those are fairly simple products to manipulate. But, what if we told you that you can achieve a completely natural-looking glow with a bronzer water?

Sounds terrifying, right? Anything liquid, by definition, is pretty damn hard to apply and control. (Hello, eyeliner.) Images of watercolor-y blotches danced through our heads when By Terry's Tea to Tan rolled across our desks. Bronzer water? It just seemed like it would go...everywhere.

But, this stuff is the real deal. Admittedly, the application is tough to get right the first time. And, it can get everywhere if not applied correctly. But, sweep Tea to Tan on the high points of your face, and you're left with a sun-kissed glow that will have people asking what exotic beach you just stepped off of.

Here's our application trick: Pour a bit into a small bowl, dip your contouring brush into it, and then apply as you would a powder. A little bit goes a long way, and Tea to Tan is insanely buildable. It dries down quickly, and you're left with a weightless finish that enhances your glow instantly.

This bottle of water may eliminate your fear of liquid cosmetics. It may even completely replace your powder bronzers. Who knew?

By Terry Tea to Tan, $58, available at Space NK.
